This is Halloween - with my kidlets

Y'all, sometimes the restrictions of having small children with strong opinions is exhausting, but sometimes it just makes me laugh. Here are some of my favorite moments from this Halloween.

- I know mine aren't the only children who have a love/hate relationship with their costumes. The first time Z put on his Spider-man costume he was excited but also confused by the huge fake muscles. When it came time to don it for Trunk or Treat his confusion morphed into hatred like the fire of a thousand suns. He kept pushing the fake pecs down and trying to get the dang thing off. So, I did what any mom might. I got the scissors and cut the fake muscles out of there. Boom. Winning. Z was happy, I was smug, it was positive all around.

On a side note, does anyone have any fun toddler ideas for using a bunch of cotton stuffing?

- Bear didn't have any sort of mixed feelings about his costume. He would tolerate wearing it as long as we didn't make him wear the monkey hood. No monkey hood. Not now, not ever, never, never, never. He still looked adorable. Those are his magical powers. I almost died from cuteness when he was munching on a homemade donut at the church and had crumbs all over the fat belly of his costume.

- I have to brag about Z. He's always a little bit of a wild card when it comes to these social experiences. Last year he hated Trunk or Treat with a passion. He basically cried the whole time and refused to take candy, greet people, exist without despair coloring every inch of his being. This time he had a ball. Danced around, said hi to people, accepted candy. He even enjoyed Trick or Treating, which was a complete shock to me. I was so happy to see him SO HAPPY.

- Bear thought Trick or Treating was AMAZING. Because of the candy? No. Because of the costumes, people, or decorations? No. Because he got to run around the streets at dusk with wild abandon instead of getting ready for bed? Yes, yes, and a thousand times, yes.
