This has been a long time coming. With Z's many illnesses over the winter, I have seen Frozen and Tangled more times than I care to admit and have spent even more time in deep contemplation over these [fictional, children's] movies.
The things I can't let go - Frozen
1. The parents - SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS!? Oh my gosh. You are told that "fear will be [her] enemy" about your daughter so your solution is to lock her away from everyone to hide her powers? What does that teach her? Oh, RIGHT! To be afraid. Really, really afraid of her power, of being around other people, of her feelings. Lord, have mercy. And then poor Anna gets caught in this madness and is isolated as well. Why? No idea. To make sure that they keep the emotional damage distributed between both daughters? I mean, really, they drive me crazy.
2. Speaking of Anna, why does she not seem to really question why they were locked away? And what happened in the interim between their parent's death and Elsa's coronation? She just kept hanging out in the closed off castle by herself? And didn't the citizens wonder about this isolation? Oh, and no wonder she "fell in love" with Hans in like 5 seconds with a background like that.
3. Why was Kristoff alone as a child with a bunch of men cutting ice? I mean, how did he end up there? I'm guessing from what he said that he was an orphan but why did none of these grown men seem concerned about this parentless child? And where did he get his tiny ice tools and sled?
4. I bet Hans was never going to say "sandwiches." Liar.
5. So, Elsa's powers include (but are probably not limited to) creating ice/snow and manipulating it, transmuting fabric, and controlling the weather. Oh, and she can create sentient life. SENTIENT LIFE! Guys. That's kinda serious.
6. Should we be concerned about the trolls lack of respect for an engagement? Or just trust their judgement since the "engagement" really was total madness?
7. It's really nice that the citizens of Arendelle are all like, "Hey, royal family, we love you. No big deal that you suddenly went into isolation and then our new queen froze the land. She unfroze it, so no harm done. Let's all go ice skating!!"
Things I can't get over - Tangled
1. Stupid witch! Why are you so ridiculous? If you had just helped the king he wouldn't have had to kill the flower. He could have just brought his sick wife to it, sang the song and everything would have been fine! And everyone could have kept benefiting from the magic flower! How did she learn that song anyway?
2. Why on earth did she tell Rapunzel her real birthday?
3. Rapunzel is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Seriously. Floating lights appear every year on her birthday. Flynn tells her when they first meet, "You mean the floating lantern thing they do for the princess?" Does she really think it's coincidence that she shares a birthday with this lost princess?! Did no one tell the story of the magic flower saving the queen, the baby being born and then disappearing?! Connect the dots!
4. For someone who lived in complete isolation, she really handles everything very well.
5. Why don't they get her some shoes? Her feet would have been destroyed!
6. I'm just going to assume that magic hair doesn't get dirty or tangled up (even though the movie is called TANGLED) because, seriously, there is no way she could have just been wandering around with that much hair trailing behind her. Also, her hair changes length throughout the movie frequently.
7. Maybe Flynn should consider a job as a stylist because he did a pretty amazing job on her hair with a broken piece of glass.
8. All she did was hang out in that tower and try to amuse herself doing things like sewing. So why was she wearing an ill-fitting dress?
9. Where and how did she obtain a chameleon?
10. I can't stop thinking about the amount of trash that would result when all those floating lanterns landed. The clean up would be insane.
