Give the Belly What it Wants?

My first trimester I was really good about not indulging too much in my food cravings. Didn't hurt that most food repulsed me but I did control myself when it came to my ability to happily eat an entire can of cheddar Pringles (that only happened once. After that I realized I have 0 self-control with Pringles and didn't buy anymore.) My second trimester things have gotten a little more interesting.

Some of you may know that due to health concerns Joe and I have gone mostly meat-free since February. We've still eaten chicken when necessary but it has been months since I'd last had any beef and it really hadn't made much of a difference to me. I like beef but I didn't eat it much growing up so its absence hasn't really been a big deal... until a couple weeks ago. Out of nowhere I started having an overwhelming desire for a hamburger. I laughed it off at first but my desire just kept growing. I started dreaming about eating them. I would get fixated when I saw one on TV. The moment I finally decided that it was time to just get a dang hamburger was when I got out of my car, smelled the hamburger place across the street and began to immediately formulate how I would get over there and get my hamburger. Except, oh right! I had guests at home that I was about to go out to dinner with. The hamburger longing had taken over my brain.

Joe started getting worried that I needed the iron or something from the beef and so I gave in and last Friday I got a cheeseburger from Five Guys.

People. I don't think anything has ever tasted so good.

The funny thing was that once I got that cheeseburger, I was fine. This week I haven't had any particular desire for one. Maybe I should just give the belly what it wants (Sometimes. If I did it all the time things could get ugly). Might save me from some obsessive food dreams.

  1. Marti's friend Ruth was a vegetarian until she was pregnant and the chicken cravings started. Enjoy the cravings and the resultant tastebud explosion of delight.
